Boston Red Sox lose to Texas Rangers 2-3 – MLB News
Boston Red Sox were beaten by the Texas Rangers 2-3 in a thrilling encounter at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Wednesday, June 5 in Game 2 of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball
regular season.
Red Sox secured a huge 17-5 win in the opener and with home condition working in their favour, they had an excellent chance to secure a rare series win against their American League rivals but the Rangers had
other ideas.
Manager Ron Washington will be extremely pleased with what he saw from his men in a game that was played on a very competitive note. It will be interesting to see if the Rangers can continue the good work in
the finale to secure an important series win to gain psychological advantage over the American League leaders.
Red Sox’s starter, John Lackey, had a great time on the mound, as he allowed just five hits and one run in six solid innings. However, despite his powerful performance, the Red Sox were unable to find their winning
ways.
"It was a huge win for us," said Elvis Andrus, who drove in the tie breaking run. "We're really good trying to turn the page and be ready for the next game. That's the way we've had success so far the last couple
of years."
"You can't get (frustrated)," said Andrus, whose batting average has dropped from .282 to .261 in his last 14 games. "I know I haven't found my swing so far this year, but, at some point, it will get back. So
I'm really glad just to do something for the team to get a win."
Relief pitcher Craig Breslow was unable to control his nerves under pressure as he gave up two runs on one hit in just 0.1 inning of relief to take his first loss of the season. For Texas Rangers, relief pitcher,
Neal Cotts walked away with a win after he showed nerves of steel under pressure.
Dustin Pedroia homered to left in the sixth inning and Jarrod Saltalamacchia doubled to deep right in the eighth but their effort did not prove to be enough for the Red Sox.
