Boston Red Sox lose to Toronto Blue Jays 6-9 at Fenway Park – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox were beaten by Toronto Blue Jays 6-9 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Monday, June 25 in the opener of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Putting up a powerful offensive show, the Blue Jays secured an emphatic win to improve to 38-35 and they also replaced Boston Red Sox on the American League East Division standings table.
There is no shortage of talent in Toronto’s hitting and pitching line-up but for some uncanny reason, the Blue Jays have struggled to bring consistency in their results since the start of this season.
The next two games will be of great significance for them as the Red Sox will be looking to turn the tables and build up some much needed confidence.
Designated hitter David Ortiz had another excellent outing with the bat as he hit two home-runs, which tied him for the most multi-home-run games in the club’s history.
"It's unbelievable," Middlebrooks said of Ortiz. "I thought the guy hits everything hard."
However, despite his valuable efforts, the Red Sox failed to find a way past the Toronto Blue Jays. Cody Rasmus, J.P. Arencibia and Jose Bautista displayed some high quality hitting skills as they all homered to help the Blue Jays topple their opponents.
"I knew I barreled it up," Rasmus said in a post game interview. "Once it hit the top, I knew it was gone."
Starting pitcher Henderson Alvarez earned his fourth win of the season after he gave up five runs and six hits in five effective innings.
"When he went out for the sixth inning he had trouble getting loose," Farrell said. "It was a precautionary thing. We'll get him an MRI tomorrow. We don't anticipate (him missing a start), but we're going to take every precautionary measure."
Despite having the home conditions working in their favour, the Red Sox were unable to find winning ways on Monday evening. Bobby Valentine and company had won seven out of their previous nine games and they were certainly the favourites to win the series’
opener but the Blue Jays had other ideas.
