Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine talks about Derek Jeter – MLB News
The new Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine is not much a fan of New York Yankees. This rivalry has long roots when he used to be the manager of New York Mets who are city rivals of the Yankees.
Though, he has now come into a new franchise, but still past memories somewhat appears and give him a slight jolt. A particular incident, in which the New York Yankees’ shortstop Derek Jeter was pretty much involved, lately came again into the media when Valentine talked to the media.
Valentine is currently busy in 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training camp in Florida, California and when some reporters talked to him about the moral, energy and commitment level of his team as well as Derek Jeter’s signature flip play. Valentine’s answer was pretty brief in which he also covered lots of other matters including the Yankees’ shortstop and his flip play in 2001 playoffs.
Bobby said, “We’ll never practice that, and I think [Jeter] was out of position, and I think the ball gets [Giambi] out if he doesn’t touch it, personally. He was a big hitter when needed. He was a leader of the pitching staff. He was able to beat up. All that stuff is good stuff. He was exactly what he was supposed to be. That was amazing that he was there. Then it was more amazing to say they practiced it. I don’t believe it.”
In this particular incident, Valentine was part of the Mets’ organisation and the rivalry between the two New York clubs was on the row. Talking about the other perspectives excluding all the controversies, the time he spent at the Mets’ franchise, was highly regarded by many as well.
Now managing the Boston Red Sox, Valentine is happy the way things are heading for the club. He and some of the other Red Sox executives have made up their minds to lead the franchise into a new direction where they will be competing with full energy against every top opponent.
Presently, the entire Red Sox roster is practicing hard during Spring Training and if they continue this hard work, the chances are bright as they will hold a good position in their own division.
