Boston Red Sox might not add starter for next season – MLB News
The Boston Red Sox are still not sure whether they have to add a potential starter for the next season or not. Valuable time is passing by as Spring Training is just around the corner.
Two former Major League players Roy Oswalt and Edwin Jackson are on the Red Sox potential signing list but their management is having issues to decide whether these two players will be adequate to add at this time or not. Both are demanding a large sum of money while the Red Sox know their poor financial situation at the moment.
Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington was present in a press conference on late Thursday evening where he also tried to explain as the team management is looking out for options.
Cherington said, “We wouldn’t rule out adding a starter, but I think it’s unlikely at this point, including the pitching staff, but I wouldn’t expect any major changes between now and the report date. We’re going to find out more about the (back) end of the rotation in spring training and see which guys step up. That will be a big focus in spring training.”
Later Bobby Valentine said, “You rely on your evaluators and you make sure you’re not fooled by results, You’ve got to understand what you’re looking at, and then hope that the bright lights don’t change anything."
There is still a possibility that the Red Sox can add a player to provide some support to their dire roster before the July 31 trade deadline. Last season when they lost many games at the end of regular season, the Red Sox management started to find replacements for their relatively underperforming players. However, they changed their mind and remained with all the players who were initially on the trading bloc.
Several baseball experts have earlier stated in the media that the Red Sox should not be worrying about their last season results. They just need to focus on the upcoming season with slight changes upfront in the roster, as the Red Sox will be on the right path against every Major League opponents.
