Boston Red Sox might unveil manager next week – MLB Update
One of the most intriguing factors this season is the signing of Boston Red Sox’s new manager. Terry Francona resigned after this past season in the aftermath of a sudden ouster from the competition, failing to hold on to their top position in the American
League East division and then crashing out of the Wild Card race on the last day of the season, losing their spot to Tampa Bay Rays.
The management of the ballclub has been busy of late, conducting interviews of various candidates and gauging their choices for the next season. It became evident this past week that Bobby Valentine has emerged as the most prominent option for the vacant
managerial position, but there has been no final word on this as yet by the management.
Although Valentine is largely considered to be the top candidate, Gene Lamont’s name has surfaced as well and his appointment to the helm of affairs cannot be ruled out this early in the offseason. The Red Sox are expected to make the announcement sooner
than later, for the sole reason of speeding the process of upgrading the roster and hence finalising a combination for the next season and preferably for a longer term.
Bobby has not had a word with the management since his eight-hour long stay at Fenway Park earlier this week. Although this factor does not hold significance, it may play a crucial role when things are close to being finalised. General manager Ben Cherington
has already tagged Valentine as an exciting talent for the role and was confident that the relation between both parties will not end anytime soon.
The prospective manager expressed excitement as well and was of the view that getting a top baseball job is like a dream come true. Bobby has managed the likes of New York Mets and Texas Rangers previously, sporting a 15-year experience on the highest level
to back his candidature.
Nevertheless, Cherington had added that anything is possible during this phase and it now seems that the statement was more methodical than realistic. The Red Sox might reveal Valentine as manager by next week, but it remains to be seen how things work out.
