Boston Red Sox outclassed by Chicago White Sox 5-7 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox were outclassed by the Chicago White Sox 5-7 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts of Tuesday, July 17 in the second game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Kevin Youkilis had an excellent game as he hit a three run home-run to give Chicago White Sox the momentum. The crowd at Fenway Park loudly cheered when he ran across the bases but yet there was something difference about the scene.
"You never know here, but it's been great," Youkilis said of his reception. "Fans have treated me unbelievable and I can't thank them enough for all the kind things they keep saying from the stands every day and every inning. Not too many opponents get to
come in here and have that opportunity."
"Yeah, he's just showing off, just rising to the occasion for us and being in big spots," manager Robin Ventura said. "I think there's something when you get traded, there's something to prove and that all goes into it with a lot of people that's happened
to."
Paul Konerko doubled to right in the first inning to put Chicago on the board. Alex Rios followed with a hit to centre to double White Sox advantage 2-0.
Carl Crawford singled to right and hero of Sunday’s game Adrian Gonzalez made a useful contribution as the Red Sox counter-attacked to level the score 2-2 in the first.
Youkilis’ belted a huge home-run into the stands in the fourth inning as the White Sox started to take control of the situation. Will Middlebrooks responded for the Red Sox with an RBI single to right and Kelly Shoppach homered for two runs in the eighth
but the White Sox were good enough to hold on to a two run lead.
Manager Bobby Valentine will be disappointed with he saw from the starting pitcher Jon Lester, who gave up seven hits and six runs to take his seventh loss of the season. His counterpart from Chicago Philip Humber had a decent outing as he allowed just two
runs and six hits in six solid innings.
