Boston Red Sox overcome Texas Rangers 6-3 – MLB News
Boston Red Sox raised their game significantly as they overcame the mighty Texas Rangers 6-3 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Thursday, June 6, in the finale of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball
regular season.
Red Sox started the series on a very dominating note as they hammered the Rangers 17-5 in the opener. However, lack of intensity cost them a fortune in the following game and the Rangers pounced on the opportunity to stay alive
in the series.
The Red Sox, however, up their game play considerably in the finale to secure another crushing series win in the American League. It will be interesting to see if the Red Sox can keep up the good work to make it to the playoffs.
Starting pitcher Jon Lester produced another magical performance as he gave up just three runs on seven hits against one of the most powerful batting sides in MLB. Striking out batters at regular intervals, the right hander laid
the foundations of a great win for his team. Relief pitcher Andrew Bailey, however, was the star of the show as he held his nerves under immense pressure to pitch the scoreless ninth.
"They don't like to mess with Papi late in the game. They stopped doing that," Ortiz said. "In that kind of situation, pretty much most of the time it's either a walk or something else happens. I just keep my patience."
"I think it was a good move. I don't think there was anything wrong with that," Ortiz said of the walk to Pedroia. "It's part of the game. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't."
"It's not the first left-hander Big Papi got, but that was the right move to make right there," Washington said.
Texas Rangers started the game on a very confident note. Adrian Beltre hit a solo home run in the third inning to extend the lead to 3-0 even though the Red Sox fought back superbly. David Ortiz hit the tie breaking three-run home
run to right in the bottom of the ninth to help his side prevail in a cliff hanger.
