Boston Red Sox pitching coach Bob McClure preparing hard for 2012 – MLB News
The Boston Red Sox pitching coach, Bob McClure is ready for the next Major League Baseball season and trying his best to re-group his team that suffered some poor defeats last season from National and American league teams.
Bobby Valentine, who is Red Sox team manager, spoke for McClure and his late efforts for the Red Sox pitching roster that has now developed into a fully groomed group to outburst on MLB hitters.
Valentine said, “He has a real true grit to him, He can be very sociable, competitive and jovial, but he also could be stern when he needs to be. And I think that’s a good prerequisite to this job.”
Valentine spoke with several reporters after he had a brief meeting with McClure. The Red Sox team manager was happy on the recent progress of his franchise’s pitching coach. Later, McClure also said in the media and explained little details about the meeting.
McClure said, “From my past experience, they actually end up better off because they’re able to work in spring training, because they’re pitching multiple innings, on a third pitch, which may be important. It usually is if you’re a starter trying to get
three times through a line-up. There are a lot of benefits in doing it.”
McClure was recently appointed as scout and roving instructor but promoted to pitching coach for senior team in Boston. Coming with a successful professional playing career, McClure certainly possesses some extraordinary skills which will ultimately help
the Red Sox in future seasons. His time as a player with the Kansas City Royals along with Milwaukee Brewers, Montreal Expos, New York Mets, California Angels, St. Louis Cardinals and Florida Marlins has greatly benefited him to become a good Major League
coach.
As a player, McClure played at both positions. He played almost same amount of games as reliever and as starting pitcher. Many say that he certainly has the ability to lead the Red Sox coaching staff in the next couple of seasons. Mainly focusing on basic
stuff, he can rebuild the Red Sox into in a new era of success.
