Boston Red Sox place centre fielder Jacoby Ellsbury on DL – MLB News
The Boston Red Sox management has placed their veteran centre fielder Jacoby Ellsbury on disabled list for almost 15 days after he was injured against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park on Friday.
Red Sox team management issued a statement regarding the late situation of Ellsbury. The statement says, "We are in the process of gathering further information and determining the treatment plan."
Boston manager Bobby Valentine at the moment seems certainly slight worried as he knows how important Ellsbury is for the team and to achieve good results in the coming days, Ellsbury’s health is the most important concerned factor for the team.
He said, “We’ll try to get him back as soon as possible with the best possible care known to man. I haven’t heard the word ‘surgery’ mentioned, but like I said, whatever the best possible care is, that’s what he’ll get. He obviously didn’t sleep much, and he’s obviously disappointed.”
Red Sox replaced Ellsbury with shortstop Mike Aviles and hoping that he will provide the same level of sustainability in the team. Even Aviles described for his injured teammate.
Aviles said for his player with great support and also admired his tremendous skills, “Jacoby’s a tough kid, and whenever you see him in the kind of pain he was in, you knew that something was wrong. We were hoping for the best, but unfortunately he’ll be out for a little bit.”
Ellsbury, who possesses five-year of professional playing experience, was playing in 2012 Major League Baseball season with a hitting average of .192 along with three RBIs and .300 OBP while his career hitting average is .299 along with 52 home runs, 238 RBIs and .354 OBP certainly makes him a good player in the League. He is a role player and helped his team on many occasions proving a valuable individual for Red Sox.
In the meanwhile, experts and Red Sox’s medical staff is still optimistic about Ellsbury’s recovery and hoping he will be back soon and will play a vital role for the team in the ongoing MLB competition.
