Boston Red Sox rebound to beat Baltimore Orioles 18-9 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox retaliated with perfect power to destroy the Baltimore Orioles 18-9 in the second outing of the double header at Fenway Park in Boston on Monday, September 19.
The wounded Red Sox batting awakened and crushed the Orioles, hitting and launching beautifully all round the park. After the Orioles’ Nick Markakis, Vladimir Guerrero and Chris Davis piled a three run lead in the top of the first inning, the Red Sox star
batters joined hands to take their team out of trouble.
Dustin Pedroia kicked off his club with an RBI single grounder touched into fielder’s choice to third base. With Pedroia on second and David Ortiz on first base, third baseman Jed Lowrie hammered a devastating three-run homer off Orioles’ starter Brian Matusz
to take his club into a 4-3 leading position in the bottom of the first inning.
Short-stop, Marco Scutaro doubled and then Pedroia added another RBI to elevate it to 6-3 at the bottom of the second inning. McDonald, Jacoby Ellsbury, Scutaro and Pedroia along with David Ortiz each added an RBI single to elevate the Red Sox to a strong
11-5 position to close down the third.
Orioles made a strong comeback and cut their deficit to 11-9 over the period of three innings. However, Red Sox posted seven runs to get into 18-9 in the seventh. Ellsbury, Pedroia and Lowrie each added an RBI while Conor Jackson sent the ball into the stands
for a grand slam hit.
Red Sox crushed the Orioles entire pitching depth. They tagged six runs to Orioles’ starter Matusz, five to reliever Chris Jakubauskas and four to Jeremy Accardo. Jason Berken and Kevin Gregg managed to escape the Red Sox power hitting.
Boston’s starter received tags in the start and allowed eleven hits, eight runs and two walks over the period of just over four innings. However, relief pitcher Scott Atchison tossed a hit-less inning to grab his first win of the season.
This dominating win has added some real confidence to the struggling Red Sox, who are in the race for a playoff spot. The Red Sox are now tied with the Texas Rangers and are three wins above the Tampa Bay Rays and five ahead of the Los Angeles Angels.
