Boston Red Sox rout Detroit Tigers 14-1 – MLB Update
The Boston Red Sox humiliated the Detroit Tigers 14-1 at Comerica Park, Detroit on Thursday, May 26.
Barely a day after Detroit had their game against the Tampa Bay Rays postponed due to rain, the encounter on Thursday proved no less than a disaster.
Boasting one of the finest pitchers of Baseball, Max Scherzer, the Tigers helplessly saw the Red Sox offence punishing every one of their pitchers with relentlessness. Boston, which had an embarrassingly poor 0-6 start, has now won 11 out of 13 of their
last games played.
The victory obviously bodes well for the Red Sox, given the increasingly competitive teams out there. However, the team manager characteristically struck a restrained note once asked about the 14-1 victory and recent wins.
"I'm glad we had two good days in a row," Francona said. "It's nice to have games like that every once in a while." For him, however, it’s too early to celebrate as he said, "I'm glad we had two good days in a row," Francona said. "It's nice to have games
like that every once in a while."
The Boston offence charged right from the second inning, amassing five valuable runs. Drew Sutton doubled to deep centre to score the first run while Josh Reddick made it 2-0 with his single to centre. The lurid Jacoby Ellsbury demonstrated his hitting power
with a three run homer, putting Detroit’s Max Scherzer in confusion.
The early 5-0 victory was then effortlessly defended by Alfredo Aceves who kept pitching shut-out innings. Carl Crawford had his fourth consecutive hit and struck a two-run homer, piling up the lead to 7-0. Detroit avoided a shut-out game as Alex Avila singled
to centre to score the only run for his team.
Change of guard in pitching hardly brought any palpable change in Detroit’s luck. When Adam Wilk came pitching in the sixth inning, the magnificent Adrian Gonzalez hit a single to make it 8-1 in the sixth inning.
Crawford scored another run in the seventh inning when Ryan Perry replaced Wilk. Nothing seemed to be working for Detroit as the lead for the Red Sox had gone to 9-1 when the seventh inning came to an end.
Matt Albers, on the other hand, pitched a shut-out seventh inning, keeping the lead intact for the Red Sox. While the Boston’s offence was at their peak with the splendid performance, the pitchers kept dominating the game.
The eighth inning saw the Red Sox offence mercilessly charging Ryan Perry. They scored a total of five runs in the inning, which included Dustin Pedroia, Adrian Gonzalez and Drew Sutton’s a single each and Josh Reddick’s two-run homer, sealing a 14-1 victory
for Boston.
