Boston Red Sox secure a comfortable 6-0 win – MLB Spring Training

Boston Red Sox secured a comfortable 6-0 win over Philadelphia Phillies at the Bright House Networks in Clearwater, Florida on Monday, March 26 in their Grapefruit League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
Dustin Pedroia looked in outstanding form in his first at bat, hitting a towering home run to help the Red Sox take complete control over the contest. The striker has now two home runs to his name this spring and it will be interesting to see if he can put
up similar performances after the opening day.
"I feel good, ready to go," Pedroia said in a post game interview. "Today was a step forward, I hit the ball good."
Jon Lester will also be very pleased with the way he conducted himself on the field. The Red Sox’s starter struck out ten batters in seven innings.
"Just pitch, that's the biggest thing," Lester said. "Just pitch, get innings, get runners on base and work on stuff like that. That's always been the biggest thing. Just pitch."
Phillies’ starter Joe Blanton had a forgettable time on the mound as he allowed five runs and seven hits over five innings pitched. Blanton played in only a handful of games last season due to an elbow injury. He will be looking to make the most of available
opportunities this season to change the course of his career.
"No idea -- he hasn't said anything to me," said Blanton. "I don't know. I don't pay any attention. I'm just going in, getting my work in."
Red Sox’s Manager Bobby Valentine was very impressed with the spirit of his team. Showing maturity as a team, the Red Sox were the superior of the two sides in almost all aspects of the game. With their win on Monday, the Red Sox have now improved their
spring win-loss record to 11-11.
After making a pretty slow start to their Spring Training campaign, the Red Sox are digging in hard to find stability and consistency. The Sox will now be eager to cheer up their fans by making it to the World Series finals.
