Boston Red Sox secure an easy 6-1 win over Baltimore Orioles – MLB Spring Training
Boston Red Sox secured a comfortable 6-1 win over Baltimore Orioles at the Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota Florida on Sunday, March 11 in their Grapefruit League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training. The Red Sox will be very pleased to snatch yet another important victory during this spring season.
Bobby Valentine and his men were unable to live up to the hype in 2011 so there will be good chance for them to make up for that in this season. With an excellent 5-2 win-loss record this spring, the Red Sox will be looking to give a tough time to other strong American League teams. It will be interesting to see if they perform in the same way in their games against some of the favourites to win this year’s World Series title.
Red Sox made an aggressive start to the game. Pressuring their opponents in each aspect of the game, they ensured a tight grip over the contest. Jon Lester made an impressive start to his Spring Training campaign as he allowed only one run and a hit over four innings pitched to let his side dominate the battle.
He produced decent performances on his previous two starts too; against Minnesota Twins and Northeastern. Walking out four and striking-out two Orioles' batters, he showed his manager and coaches what he is capable of.
"About halfway through the second, I finally got into a little bit of a rhythm," Lester said. "We had a hard time kind of figuring out where the plate was. We were just missing on a lot of pitches. He was setting up just a little bit off and just not getting the calls. So it's spring training, trying to figure out the umpires too.”
"I really liked what I saw of Jon Lester," Boston manager Bobby Valentine said. "He had good stuff and he had to make an adjustment during those innings."
Adam Jones was the only Orioles' batter, who managed to score a run off him, earning an RBI single in the first. Considering their 4-3 win-loss record this season, the Orioles will be looking to bring more consistency in their game play.
