Boston Red Sox show interest in Dan Haren – MLB Update
Los Angeles Angels' right hand starting pitcher Dan Haren is waiting for a new contract from his franchise as he is also among those players who are making the 2012 free agency market more exciting.
With Haren’s presence in free agency market, many teams including the Boston Red Sox are showing great interest to sign him.
"I think they should keep me just because the uncertainty of the free agent market and the fact that replacing me is gonna cost some money, I have a big upside and I feel like I'd be low-risk being on a one-year deal," Haren wrote in an email to a sports website on Thursday morning.
The Angels are taking their time to offer the nine-year veteran a lucrative deal despite the fact that he was not fully fit during the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Though he later recovered from his back pain which created lots of problems for him during the middle of the season but now experts believe that he is fully recovered and could make a healthy bargain for any team.
“I started working out about a week after the season ended, and I'm feeling good, I'm gonna go into this spring as strong as I've ever been and I'm confident I'll be back to my old self, I loved my time with the Angels, I would come back if we worked out something fair for both sides,” Haren said.
Angels also have couple of decisions lined up regarding Haren’s future. They can re-sign him and at the same time they can buy out his $15.5 million option for $3.5 million or they can still trade him on his picked option clause.
Haren finished his 2012 Major League campaign achieving 4.33 ERA along with 12-13 win-loss, 142 strike-outs and 1.29 WHIP. While his nine-year career 3.66 ERA along with 119-97 win-loss 1585 strike-outs and 1.18 WHIP also shows how consistent he has been performing in the biggest baseball league in the world.
Sources also say that Boston Red Sox is not the only team who is interested in Haren but some other top Major League teams also want him in their roster.
