Boston Red Sox slip to Atlanta Braves 1-4 – MLB Recap
The Boston Red Sox were defeated by Atlanta Braves 1-4 in the first game of their three match regular series encounter on Friday, June 22 at Fenway Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The Red Sox, who were coming with five-game winning streak, could not show their natural game against the Braves and fell short by three runs’ in their first game of the series.
"I guess it's a little easier to pitch in the big leagues than in Triple A, This is the J.J. of last year, really, when he was rolling and made the All-Star team. So it's a nice lift." Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez said for his team’s combined effort.
Braves’ pitching offence held the Red Sox top batters and never allowed them any chance to play them easy instead they kept their thrust and eventually won the game with much ease.
Led by starter Jair Jurrjens, the Braves rotation only received one run and three hits in total nine innings.
Jurrjens in particular, played well and maintained his 6.75 ERA.
"Awesome, that’s the only word I can come up with. I was lacking strength and going down there helped me get back to correcting my delivery and getting strength in my leg again," Jurrjens said on his particular outing which proved wonderful for team as they won in style.
Later the Boston manager Bobby Valentine said on his team’s poor performance, "We just never got him deep in an inning, everyone thought he looked good to hit and they were anxious to do it and just didn't get the results."
Red Sox starter and reliever Jon Lester and Mark Melancon could not save the game for their team as they pitched poorly throughout the game.
Lester started the game for the Red Sox and hammered for 10 hits and three runs along with three earned runs.
He waivered on the mound and could not capitalise on his fast deliveries as his ERA rose to 4.48.
Melancon on the other hand, also smashed for three hits and one run while he disappointed his team with his ERA which rose to 15.43.
