Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Daniel Bard faces pressure to close – MLB News
The Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Daniel Bard is facing some huge criticism the way he has pitched during the three game regular series against the Detroit Tigers in 2012 Major League Baseball season. Some say he is not fit as starter and should convert
his game as closing pitcher for the sake of Red Sox’s future results.
But some say this will be dangerous for the Red Sox as last year, during the MLB season, this Boston baseball franchise made same kinds of mistakes which were not proved fruitful. However, this time around, the way Red Sox have lost to the Tigers in the
opening series, is something serious to worry about.
The management on the other hand also listening to all these speculations and the gossip regarding Bard’s performance and his new role which he must opt to bring consistency in the future results of the team.
However, the team manager Bobby Valentine still believes that his players will do better in the coming days including pitchers and bating line-up. He somewhat responded to all those speculations about his one player’s new potential role as closing pitcher
as he stated in the media with slight detail.
Valentine said, “We’re trying to figure out what to do. And we’ll keep it a work in progress. We’re three days into this thing since we lost (Andrew Bailey), Might be. The guys played a h**l of a game. That was a game to be proud of, till the end. If I remember
correctly we were down 4-0, we kept coming back, Great job, great job.”
Later, Bard, who is currently under pressure to play as closing pitcher told the media about his next potential game which he slightly know about. He said, “I know I’m making the start in Toronto Tuesday night, beyond that, I don’t know what’s going to happen.
But, yeah, it could happen, I suppose.”
For many this will create no such effect as one particular player can perform with a different role, but those who understands the game well, will always argue on these types of sudden position changes.
