Boston Red Sox thrash Texas Rangers 17-5 – MLB news
Boston Red Sox showed just what they are capable of as they secured a comfortable 17-5 win against the Texas Rangers at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Tuesday, June 4 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball
regular season.
It was an incredible performance by the Red Sox, who have looked simple unstoppable since the start of the season. Red Sox posted their worst since in 2012, finishing at the bottom of the American League East Division standings table but things have changed
for them quite dramatically this year. With their win, the Red Sox improved their record to 36-23 to consolidate their position at the top of the AL East standings table and it will be interesting to see if they continue the good work to make it to the playoffs.
Starting pitcher Ryan Dempster put up a great show as he allowed just five hits and three runs in a high scoring contest. Striking out six batters in seven solid innings, he ensured the Red Sox were in the driving seat right from the start.
“I like my chances when we get 17 runs,” Dempster said with a slight grin. “It was just fun to watch the guys swing the bat as well as they did today. When you have breathing room like that, it is nice because you kind of fill up the zone a little bit more
and try and get some quick outs.”
“There was too many pitches in the middle of the plate and the Red Sox didn't miss,” Rangers’ manager Ron Washington said. “They came out tonight swinging the bats and they didn't stop it until we put Murphy out there.”
Relief pitcher Andrew Miller continued to impress the critics as he pitched the perfect ninth to help the Red Sox hold on to their considerable lead. Centre fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. smacked a two run home run to right in the second inning to give Red Sox
a crucial lead. Mike Carp, Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Stephen Drew hit back to back home runs to help the Red Sox stack up a huge total on the board.
