Boston Red Sox thrash Toronto Blue Jays 10-4 to win series – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox continued their impressive winning streak as they thrashed Toronto Blue Jays 10-4 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Wednesday, June 27 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball.
Dustin Pedroia had another excellent outing with the bat as he doubled to deep right-centre in the first inning to level the score 1-1. Adrian Gonzalez also made the most of available opportunities, reaching second base on a throwing error to put the Red
Sox up 3-1.
Third baseman Will Middlebrooks continued his superb hitting form with an RBI groundout to third and Mike Aviles singled to left in the first to cap a six run first inning for Boston. Gonzalez and Aviles continued their attack to add two more runs in the
fourth inning and David Ortiz homered to right-centre to close out to the contest.
"I wasn't sure" that would be the bottom, Valentine said after Wednesday's win, "But I believed it. Things were going so wrong and we couldn't catch a break. ... I think things turned around because guys believed it, too."
"We all knew that that was the cellar and it was not going to get any worse," Cody Ross said. "You still have to go out and play and perform and since then we've been having fun. Our main thing is to win series. We did that here. Now we can go on the road
with some confidence and make a run."
In some ways, it was a huge win for the Red Sox who looked a bit short of confidence in the series opener. The Blue Jays had the better of their opponents in the game and they were looking to earn a rare series win at Fenway Park but Boston had other ideas.
Showing great fighting spirit and temperament, the Red Sox outclassed their opponents in the second game to level the series. With momentum on their side, Bobby Valentine and company put up another power show on Wednesday evening to improve their record
to 40-35.
Red Sox are now six games behind the American League East Division leaders and it will be interesting to see if they can replace them to make it to the post-season.
