Boston Red Sox with bad start to 2011 regular season
Opening Day seems so long ago to the Boston Red Sox. Suffering a confidence-shattering starting of 0-3 definitely has the fans devastated. As the Texas Rangers swept them off the field, fans were seen with signs of “The season is not over.” But is it not?
Out of the 80 playoff teams, only three have started 0-3 and none of them is as talented as the Red Sox.
The Rangers made sure they send out a message to everyone competing, especially Boston as they are not to be discounted in the American League. Team President Nolan Ryan, who himself was a pitcher par excellence during his time said, “I think this weekend
probably sent a message to the rest of the league that the Rangers are a legitimate team."
The Red Sox were outscored by quite a margin of 26-11 and out-homered 11-3 in Texas, Dustin Pedroia stated, “We got outplayed. It's not for lack of talent on our team. We got outpitched, we got out hit, they played better defense than us, and they kicked
us, that’s it.”
In 2007, the Red Sox had six streaks of three loses consecutively but all was forgiven by their loyal fans as they ended up winning the World Series. 2004 saw them with four streaks of three losses each in a row. Surprisingly, this was the same year that
they won the historic World Series after more than half a decade of waiting.
On another occasion in 2008 Boston lost three consecutive games during the first week and had two streaks of five losses each, finishing 95-67. Again, they got selected for the Wild Card.
His statements pretty much sums up the performance of the Red Sox. Although there still is some hope, for example in 2009 the Red Sox lost their second, third, fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth games in a 2-6 start. Boston later managed to finish 95-67 as
they ended up winning the Wild Card.
Boston just seems to be having early regular season jitters as they are still settling in with their final roster and the team is looking to come together and play hard in their next few match-ups. It is important that the Red Sox do not panic, as it is
only been a few days into the regular season and there are many games still to play. The Red Sox will be looking to put in a better performance and work on increasing their game-play through an improved offensive stance.
Although the fans might be worried, the team will be looking to stay calm and composed as they manage their players efficiently to tackle some issues which are currently hampering the team’s progress.
