Boston Red Sox’s Adrian Gonzalez coming back to match fitness – MLB Update
Adrian Gonzalez was brought in to the Boston Red Sox squad last year when the winter meetings took place in the Major League Baseball off-season period. The hard hitter was harbouring a shoulder injury when he came in from the San Diego Padres. Much to the
pleasure of the player and the team, there is a development coming forth, as the former Padres’ player made his first start of the year in Spring Training.
The first baseman is on his way back to a full recovery and that is something he is taking as a good sign. The player was able to go up against the Florida Marlins and made his mark on the game for the Red Sox, as he took down Josh Johnson for a single on
the first pitch delivered to him. The player was added to the squad with Carl Crawford and he is expected to play for the main team soon.
"I'm on schedule," Gonzalez said. "We never set a schedule to be ahead or behind. You just take a day at a time and when you're ready, you're ready. I've been saying this all along -- I don't like to get ahead of myself. I'm never going to say I'm ahead
or behind schedule. I'm just on schedule. One thing I've said all along is that I'll be ready Opening Day."
As for his game on Saturday, Gonzalez told the press on how he came to make the decision.
"[Trainer Mike Reinold] came to me, kind of mapped it out, said, 'This is not in stone concrete, can't go off of it, but if everything happens as I foresee, you might play Saturday, you might play Monday,'" Gonzalez said.
The first baseman went on to say that he was not sure about which day, what time and where he would go on to play for the team in Spring Training. However, on Saturday he felt good and his hard hitting is why he went into the game against the Marlins, to
pinch in two At-Bats. As for tomorrow, Gonzalez told the reporters that his feature would depend on how he would feel at the time.
