Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is my first time.

  1. October 12th is the peak of Foliage Season.

Do yourself a favor and rent a car and head up Rte 95 as far up as you can.  The foliage in upper NH and Maine and VT is so spectacular, you;ll never forget it.  Boston can't compare to whats up there!

  2. There is always lots of things to do in Boston.

The foliage in the Boston area is at its height from about Oct 15 to 20, but you have to get out of the city to see areas of lots of color.

October 10-15 foliage color is at its height in central Vermont and New Hampshire.  You should plan to take the last 2-3 days of your holiday there.  But make lodging arrangements in advance -- some years the area is just swamped by leaf-peepers from elsewhere.

Weather is usually the best of the year for New England - 60-70 degrees F without many rain days.
