I have heard that rotting fruits help unripened fruits ripen faster. They apparently release a chemical. I wanted to know if this was true or not and if it is what chemical would that be?

  1. True.Over ripe fruits tend to give out ethylene gas.this promotes the ripening of other fruits in its vicinity. such release of ethylene occurs in tomato,mangoes,etc.


  2. Yes.  Ripening fruits release ethylene, a gas, which speeds up ripening of other fruits.
