Question:

Both NY Teams....Make or Break Series?

Today starts a key series for both NY teams. Yanks against Red Sox, and Mets against Phillies. Do you think this will be a make or break series for both teams? More so for The Yankees, being they are 5 games behind Boston for WC, and with a sweep, could be just 2 behind, or with losses, 8 games. Ouch. Mets have a bit of room to make errors, but none the less, very important for them as well. Do you think both these series will "tell" if they both can make playoffs, or is there still some time left for both teams, with under 30 games left to play, if they lose this crucial match up?

  1. Break Both NY Teams will lose The Mets to the Phillies in the Series and Division, and The Yankees They'll lose the Series to the Red Sox The Division to the Rays and The Playoffs to the Red Sox as well as, Neither the Yankees or Mets will get out alive come September.

  2. this is important to red sox and yankees. red sox need to atleast take two.

but if yankees even take 2 it be diffuclt to figure who going to win anything.

sweep? lmao not going to happen

  3. If the Yankees get swept they are done. If they can sweep then they have a decent chance and the momentum. 2 out of 3 really wouldn't help them out to much either way.

The Mets for mental sake need to sweep or at least play well and take 2 out of 3.

  4. The Mets and Phillies will go to the last week in September.

This is only a 2-game series. If the Mets win both, they lead by 2 1/2 games, If the Phillies win both, they lead by 1 1/2 games, and if they split the Mets will still be 1/2 game up. In either case, the race isn't over.

  5. Agreed, the Yankees are in a situation whereby if they don't sweep the Red Sox at home, they are done for the season.  It a tough order but playing at home will certainly help.

The Phillies and Mets are too close to call.  My gut feeling is that this NL East race will go down to the wire, maybe even the last couple of games.

  6. yanks are my favorite but i must say i dont think that they can all 3 games. i dont have much hope for them to make the play offs. at least matsui is back though

  7. yup i know the yanks can do it!!

    go yankees

but ya we have to win this series

  8. To make the Wild card the Yanks need to sweep the Redsox this series, no ifs ands or buts. If they dont sweep they will not be in the playoffs.

As for the Mets, I dont think they will win their division. Philly is red hot, and the Mets have too many issues with their bullpen.

  9. I think the Mets series with the Phillies is more important as they are both battling for the top of the NL East and it is these kind of series that change the look of that certain division. Especially, since it is late in the season with only one month of play left, this games are MUST WINS.

The series is important to the Yankees as sweeping the Red Sox would bring them closer to the Wild Card berth, but even a sweep of the Red Sox is unlikely to bring them to the playoffs as they have been unable to win consistently. There was a point right after the All Star break where they came 0.5 game behind the Sox, but I think because they were unable to take advantage and surge past the Sox, they have very little of chance of making it to the playoffs this year.

  10. I think it's make or break for both teams. If the Phillies can sweep the Mets then tehy'll get the mental edge come playoff time. I think the Mets coudl stil make the playoffs but won't do anything if they can't get their heads right.

As for the Yanks. I think their season is kind of already broken. Even if they sweep the Sox and move to 2 games behind them that'll prob. be 4 games behind the Twins for the wild card. And unless the Yanks play near perfect (or the Rays, Sox and Twins falter) for the rest of the season, I don't see them passing both the Sox and the Twins for the last playoff spot.

  11. I would say the Yankees have to win at least two out of three. if they get swept its over for them. even though iam a yankee fan no matter if they sweep the sox with there pitching  it would shock me if they get the wild card
