  1. If he is in public school, they are LYING.

SO MANY schools across the country do this.

The SCHOOL is suppose to test him, the SCHOOL is suppose to provide help to him thru special ed IF he qualifies.

BUT, you and the school MUST follow the legal process spelled out in the IDEA laws 'individuals with disabilities education act'

Go to www.wrightslaw.com  to learn the laws.

If you don't follow the process, they will continue to lie to you.

Please email me sisymay@yahoo.com  if you would like me to help!

  2. legally, the school system doesnt have to test him for dyslexia. Nor do i believe they should.. They do not have proper staff to test for this... I would first go to the childs dr and have them test for any visual problems.. If then he is fine i would go to a pediatric neuropsychologist, I reconize that their testing may be more expensive, but their are HIGHLY trained. Pediatric Neuropsychology is a field of study involving the relationship of abilities, behaviors and mental skills (cognitive functions) in children. Clinical, pediatric or child neuropsychology (neuropsych) involves the application of this field to diagnostic assessment and clinical treatment of normal and abnormal child developmental, medical, psychiatric, and neurological conditions or problems. Go to http://www.abpdn.org/ and find a person close to you.. If there isnt one close to you then go to www.theaacn.org or http://abpn.net/memberDirectory.aspx/... these are clinical neuropsych, but doesnt specialize in pediatric.. They are still highly qualified for this.

  3. I thought that legally the school have to deal with issues like this We have a SEN head (special education needs) I am a LSA who takes children from their classes to teach specail classes, many have dyslexia, your school or at least your local council must have procedures in place. Call your council.

  4. if u n ur childs teacher   believe that  he has dyslexia  then the school  should be abke to test him .  when i first  put my daughter in school  i told  her teacher  that  i had it  n i was  just  sayin maybe  she does to .. they didnt  test her  but  2 years later  they  tested her   cuz  she  wasnt  up 2 par  .. come to find out she   has it  .. n the  first  thing  was  out of my mouth  was that i told yall to  test her  , but 0 no shes too young to tell . but the school tested her  n  she is in  her  own little  class  with other  kids   with the  same or  close to the  same .. they find ways  to help ur  child  stay  with his classmates  n not  fall too far behind

  5. what kind of school do you have him in??  in the US, there is a Federal Law and statutes that assure your child has access to testing, etc.  see if your country has any similiar rules or laws.

  6. A Pediatric Neuropsychologist is your best bet. Many health insurers will cover the cost of this testing. I do not recommend having him tested within the school. He will get a total assessment of all his strengths and weaknesses with a qualified Doctor. If he is found to be dyslexic he can get an IEP written up for him. He may have to have tests read to him, more time on tests, etc. He may need a different reading program to attain literacy such as Wilson or  Linda Mood Bell. Some public schools are now implementing these programs. Phonic based programs do not work for the dyslexic child nor do traditional tutoring programs. I hope this information helps some. There are many great websites so you can learn more about dyslexia. Good Luck.
