Former Sporting Lisbon coach Laszlo Bölöni claims that both the club and player will reap the benefits of Yannick Djalo’s transfer to Benfica.
The forward signed for the Reds this winter, after becoming surplus to requirements at Estadio Jose Alvalade. A youth product of the famed Sporting academy, Djalo became an integral part of the club after returning from his loan stint with Casa Pia in 2006.
However last summer, the Lions splashed out exorbitant amounts of cash for new players and it led to the sale of the 25-year-old to French side Nice. But unfortunately that is where his career took a major downfall.
FIFA ruled out the transfer as it was completed moments after the window had closed and as a result he returned back to Lisbon. However his former club did not take him back and he was a free agent, although he continued to train with the Sportinguistas.
Benfica acquired his services this winter, with the aim of further strengthening their squad. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rodrigo-c31437 but is keen to promote healthy competition in the team.
The switch will also be a warm welcome to Djalo, who hasn’t played properly since last season. That coupled with the allure of the UEFA Champions League is a great package and since the club did not have to cough up a transfer fee, it seems like a rare win-win situation.
Former Sporting boss Laszlo Bölöni also agreed with this notion and claimed that both the player and the club will benefit from the signing.
"The truth is that both of them will be benefitting. Benfica have made a good purchase, a player with a lot of value. But it is also positive for Yannick, because he was not playing and has now gone to a big club, which is one of the largest in Europe and has had a great season so far. He will have the opportunity to show his quality,” the Romanian was quoted as saying.
Although Djalo is now officially a Benfica player, it remains to be seen what sort of impact he has at the helm, given the quality of attackers already plying their trade at the Stadium of Light.
