Botham happy to see Aussies squabbling
Former English all-rounder and current Sky Sports commentator Ian Botham has said that the public spat between Australian captain Ricky Ponting and former leg-spinner Shane Warne could work in England’s favour for the forthcoming Ashes. Botham said that
he was enjoying every moment of the squabble between the two as it enhances England’s chances of winning the Ashes.
Speaking to The Sunday Telegraph, Botham said that spat said that the Australian side was in turmoil and that augured well for the English. He added, “That is turmoil, and the more turmoil http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 are in, the better it is for us. It's great when the Aussies
start whingeing among themselves.”
Warne had questioned on his Twitter account some of the fields that Ponting had set for the off-spinner Nathan Hauritz in the second Test match against the Indians. Ponting had later claimed that it was easy to criticize but the fact was that Hauritz had demanded
for those fields himself. Ponting had also said that Warne should have taken time to ask him about the same before commenting in the public domain. The two had later patched up by text messaging each other.
Botham said, "I don't blame Warnie for what he said and I don't blame Ricky for his reaction. But something obviously isn't right down there for it to happen in the first place,"
He also said that it was a surprise that the Australian captain was being criticised before the start of the Ashes. Botham added, "What's going on down there? Keep it going. I think it's great they're all squabbling and arguing and telling each other what they
should be doing. Someone says let's do this and someone says, no let's do that. Someone says we should be going this way and someone else says we should go the other way. It really is brilliant. Keep it up boys, I'm loving it."
Botham also said that he was happy with the way the English team was shaping up. He said that there were not too many concerns in the side and should do well in the Ashes.
