Boucher’s injury means more than any cricket game says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DW-Steyn-c1409 – Cricket News Update
Despite remaining focused ahead of his side’s series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MV-Boucher-c2048 means so much more that any game of cricket he has ever played.
It has been a tough beginning for the touring Proteas’ party, who has been forced to reflect on the recent unfortunate events after losing one of their most influential players in Boucher. The veteran wicket-keeper was expected to play in his last international series in a bid to wrest the no.1 Test title away from the Poms, while consequently becoming the first gloveman in history to claim 1000 dismissals along with attaining the distinction of representing the national side in 150 Test matches.
However, all changed during the opening warm-up game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-c64193 Tahir. The freakish incident left the wicket-keeper helpless, and in great pain, where he was immediately escorted out of the stadium before surgery ruled him out of the series, forcing the player into abrupt retirement.
Steyn, who is expected to spearhead the bowling attack, had his say on the incident, claiming that the unpleasant circumstances have indeed left his side in an emotional state and made them a little philosophical regarding the upcoming battles.
While confirming that he will not lose focus, he was ready to look at things from a bigger perspective.
"Everyone is going on and on about being the No. 1 Test side in the world but when one of my friends possibly loses an eye and his whole life is about to change that means so much more to me than any cricket game that I will ever play," he said. "Having said that, I am here to play cricket so I have to focus on that. Reality struck down hard when that happened and it just put things into perspective."
"We wanted to win this series before the incident. However, it does add a little extra inspiration or motivation because Mark would have wanted to stand on that podium," he added.
