It would look prettier climbing up the house, but I don't want it there if it damages the stucco. Thank you!

  1. I totally agree with CB on this one.It will not attach itself like ivy, and some other plants.I'm not sure the thorns are hard enough to scatch stucco when it is wind blown, but even so if it did it would be to fine a line to notice on the texture of the stucco.I would say go for it!

  2. i wouldent plant it near stucco, & apperantly they are very prone to frost damage. http://www.gardeners.com/All%20About%20C...

  3. Bouganvillea is in the classification of climbing plants with the habit known as a scrambler and would be a good choice.

Scramblers are unable to climb on their own and will need to be secured in place with either gardening string or wire. Of course, their thorns can make this tender work.

Damage from the plant itself will be minor, thorns scratching the stucco only!

  4. It is very doubtful that the Bougainvillea will do any damage to a stucco wall.  You may want to consider the opposite.  Bougainvillea prefers a slightly acid soil and the ground next to any concrete can often be pretty alkaline.  You may want to do a soil test and sweeten it up before you plant.
