I don't understand , i have RGB cable which has the color coded on all 6 ends of red, green, blue.

I connect the RGB cable to the right color ports on the back of the HDTV Y=green PB= blue PR=red through the "input video" .

Then i connect the other end of the RGB cable to my old DVD which is yellow port I =video output RGB GREEN, White port L =audio output RGB BLUE , red port R =audio output RGB RED.

After turning on the HDTV and Dvd player i get no picture when i change the mode screen to "comp" on the AV button on the remote, I did see the logo of my dvd player on the TV for like 2 quick seconds but it was in black and white then disappeared.

  1. Use the Scart connector.

A DVD player wont be HD ready only Blu Ray playrs are and have HDMI outputs

  2. A few things:

RGB is usually thought of as the only component connection. Actually, there are three slightly different component types: YUV, YCbCr, YPbPr. All offer high quality analogue video connection and should be used, if available.

Now, the yellow connection on your DVD player is composite, where all video information is combined and sent down one line, with a noticeable loss in quality. Definitely not what you want for an HDTV. White and Red connections are the audio left and right respectively.

So you're connections are all wrong and I suggest that you disconnect them now to avoid equipment damage.

If your DVD has a SCART connection, you should connect a decent SCART to component cable, or better yet, a SCART to SCART cable, as this will preserve the component connections.

If your DVD and HDTV have HDMI connections, these should be used as they're digital and offer the highest possible quality. Don't waste money on very expensive HDMI cables as they'll make no difference.

A Blu-Ray player offers full HD, but an upscaling DVD player will have also an HDMI output and will still offer very good quality.

  3. Hi,

You have got it all wrong. RGB cables are only for video not for audio. You have to use seperate RCA (RED and WHITE) audio cables to get the audio. So another words you cannot connect video cables to recieve audio. You have to use audio cables for that. If you want to get composite video from your DVD player to tv, then you can use one of the RGB cables to run a composite connection from the DVD to TV. Connect any RGB (one RCA cable) to composiste out on the DVD and connect the other end of the same cable to composite in of the TV. Now get a RCA audio cable as I said, and connect both L and R to DVD and the other ends to tv in the same input area as for you composite video. The RGB cables are meant for component video. If you get a DVD player with component out then you can actually use the component inputs on your tv.

Hope this helps and good luck!
