12 ft by 36 inches.  Convert to like measurements:

For a rectangular pool: 12 ft by 3 ft and multiply:

12 x 3 = 36 square feet.

For a circular pool with a 12 ft diameter (3 ft sides not needed to calculate area of circle): area = (pi)r^2

The radius would be half the diameter: 6

Therefore, for a circular pool you would need: 36(pi) or 113.09 square feet
