Bought a 3/4" ACX plywood board to make a ping pong table & a seam down the middle keeps opening up? ?

I lightly sanded the board first then I used wood puttyto fill in the seam. Then sanded again, put a base coat of enamel paint on & let it dry. And then started putting coats of a gloss enamel but the seam just gets worst & hasn't filled in smoothly?
