My old TV from 2004 has a better picture quality and isn't a plasma or has HD.

Do I need special cables for my new plasma tv?

  1. Well if you're looking at regular TV, you only getting 720p coming in, to utilize your HDTV full potential, you will need a Blue-ray disc player, and a HDMI cable to hoop up booth sets

  2. You are feeding it video designed in 1948 for a nine-inch screen. This always looks horrible on a modern high def display.

Upgrade your service to include HD channels. It will shock you how much better it looks.

Dish for instance has just announced some "TurboHD" packages where only HD channels are included.  Once you start watching true HD video, standard def is washed out, poor quality and you avoid it.

  3. for one you are probably looking a stardard definition programing on your high def tv. this always results in the picture looking bad. in order to truly take advantage of you tv you need to get an hd source. whether that be a blu ray disc player or hd programing from cable or satellite. then you need an HDMI cable to hook the two components (your tv and the player) together. you can find them at virtually any electronics store. DO NOT buy the expensive one because a digital signal is either all there or not there at all. there is no such thing as a good HDMI cable. dont let the store salesperson talk you into buying an expensive one. once you do that your tv will look much better.
