ive bought a 1989 motorcycle, and it says 10,958 miles on the clock, so this is obviously a mistake. and it has at somepoint broke a clock, and it has been changed.

how can i find out the genuine milage because there are no previous mot certificates, and if im unable to, will it affect my insurance, and i want to have an MOT put on it this week aswell.

  1. Yes you can but they may want to know details. How do you know it's been clocked though, bikes do tend to have lower mileage than cars as most aren't used as daily transport. Your bike may have only been used for excursions on sunny days etc lol.

  2. Yes it can be insured.  I've got a 1973 XLCH with 10,693 miles.  It's actual mileage and my insurance carrier has never asked for verification.

  3. That might be the right amount of miles some people dont ride alot.

  4. Why is it "obviously" a mistake?

A friend of mine has just sold a 26 year old Kawasaki Z-750 with 7,000 miles on the clock - verified by the M.O.T.s and a full service record.

I had a bike brought to the shop for an M.O.T. recently - the owner had done 160 miles in 2 years.

As you gain experience with motorcycles, you will find that mileages vary hugely for bikes of the same age.

  5. Total mileage isn't relevant to insurance, nor is it required for MOT.  Don't worry about it.  It could be genuine, you know.

  6. milage may be correct....makes no differance to mot or insurance...

  7. if it is not on the title there is no way to verifie it
