  1. Being on a budget, I bought my carseats at yard sales. It isn't recommended because you don't know if it has been in an accident. If it has, then the structure of the seat has been damaged. I did make sure to check the dates on them to see that they weren't expired. Expired carseats are no good because the plastic wears over time due to hot/cold in your car.

To me, a carseat is a carseat and if looks ok then isn't ok?

  2. At least call the company for a new user guide.  They will recommend you not use it, especially if older than 5 years or so.  I have a backup car seat I bought at a yard sale I have used, so it is up to you.  Some will say yes, others no.  Make sure you check it thoroughly.

  3. I took a carseat to the fire station to see if it was good and they told me.

  4. Get a new one.  You don't know if that one has been in a car accident.

  5. First look up to see if it's been recalled, if it hasn't  then go to your local fire department to have it accurately installed and checked.  They know the accurate standards and regulations regarding child car seats.

  6. There should be a year on the carseat.  Look all over it.  If it is expired I would toss it because plastic does expire and get soft, even if we can feel it or not.  If it isn't expired then look online for any recalls and if not then it's fine
