House built in 2004. Mold in garage. Previous owners painted over the mold in the garage. Now it leaks periodically and I feel they covered it up - any way to prove it or am I stuck with the estimated $1000.00 bill?

  1. This problem should have been listed in the Disclosure section of the Purchase agreement. Check with your Realtor.

  2. People think that if they put KILZ primer over mold that it will keep mold from coming out. Not the case, what it does is block mold. It does not kill the mold, if the mold is not treated then it will keep growing. I've heard a lot of people say that KILZ will stop the mold, not the case. So the people that sold you the house may have believed that they took care of the problem. It may not be that they knew about the problem, it could be that they thought they took care of the problem.

Anyway I'm not a lawyer and I don't know what your rights are, but when you get the mold fixed make sure they don't just put KILZ primer over it. It needs to be treated first......

  3. You are stuck when you signed the papers and did not pay a qualified person to inspect and if you pay a qualified person to inspect then go after them.Good luck.

  4. That may be hard to prove they knew about it and covered up is the paint job new. They may have thought painting it would "fix" it. Call your realtor ASAP
