the agitator on several machines I have checked have casting marks protruding out on the bottom edge. These four casting projections have ruined approximately $300 worth of towels. Repair man says race water level to keep towels off the bottom but did not fix problem. Sears brochure says satisfaction guaranteed or your money back no one after two years as either fixed the problem or refunded our money but however offered us a 10% discount on a new machine. A big sign in the store says 10% discount on any item over $100. To us this is not satisfactory what do we do next?

  1. Take the Sears brochure and photograph the 10% discount sign in the store.  Document the towels (receipts, sample pieces.)  Write a letter to the Better Business Bureau and mail it.  Copy everything.  Obtain some used towels and conduct an experiment with friends/neighbors to observe and record results.  Prepare a video for YouTube.

Contact Sears with neighbors and camera in tow:  inform them of your YouTube video and ask if they choose to honor their guarantee.  Point out that the entire group will share their modified buying decisions (preferring not to use Sears) with friends, relatives, and neighbors, directing them to the video on the web.

You will, of course, be videotaping all of this...

For generations, Sears built a sold reputation for a rock-solid guarantee.  Shame them (via their pocketbooks) to reclaim and prove up that reputation.

  2. Raise the water level to keep the towels higher sounds like bull**** to me. Many times I have put in a full load of laundry, in several different machines over the years, forgotten to adjust the water level from low to high, and have never had any damage to what's in the wash. I mean, how big are these towels, anyway?  And towels don't float once they're wet--no matter how much water you put in the machine, once it starts agitating, the contents will be near the bottom at some point in the cycle. I'd call Sears customer service and explain the whole thing, keep pestering them till you get someone with some common sense. You would like a different model, or for someone to do something about the casting projections you think are causing the problem. Perhaps it would be worth it to call in a repairman who is not from Sears, for an objective opinion.

  3. it wouldnt be ok for me either, that washer is defective, simple as that, my washer doesnt ruin my towels, they are supposed to be designed to NOT ruin clothing. i do run my washer full of water when i wash towels but thats only because its a full load, you should not have to do that. i think you should let sears know you are going to report them to the better business beuro (and actually do it to) thats about your only recourse other then small claims court.
