Bought a new painting but...?

I have recently bought a painting from the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy in London. I have been told by the gallery staff that because I bought the original paining I would have to wait until the end of the exhibition and that the artist will get in touch with me to arrange the collection of the painting.

The exhibition ended last 18 August and I still haven't heard from anyone.

Have you ever bought a piece from the Summer Exhibition? If so, how long did it take for your piece of art to be sent to you?

Thanks!!

  1. Contact the gallery. Hope you haven't been conned. Hope you have a receipt! Hope you get it sorted.

  2. Who is the artist?

Try and contact them directly if you don't hear anything soon.

  3. Dont worry, it is unlikely it is anything untoward if you bought from the Summer Show - the Royal Academy will be keen to avoid any negative publicity as I am sure the artist is.

It does however take a while for the artist to receive their work back from the Summer Show, firstly the show only closed on the 17th, and as you have seen how many images are displayed in the show imagine how long it takes to take these down, to catalog them and reference the sales, then to make these available for collection by the artist. I cant remember the collection dates for last year but they were substantially after the closing date, and at a guess would be similar this year.

if you have contact details for the artist, an email or phone number, it wouldn't be untoward to contact her to find out a timescale for the delivery, I'm sure she would be happy to give you the information she had.

    :-)

  4. This is the Royal Academy contact page: http://www.royalacademy.org.uk/planyourv...

One of the contacts is "Buying art by Royal Academicians" and it's an email address: membershipoffice@royalacademy.org.uk  I suggest you contact them.
