It already has a profile/user set up but I want to change it to me. I don't want to lose the games and music already downloaded.

the guy i bought it off has passwords set up for playstation network and his credit card details on the wallet. I can't remove them without a password. what do i do?

also the parental control has a 4 figure password on it too and I can't change the settings.

is there anyway to remove all these personal settings and start afresh? would i have to reformat the harddrive or would that not work?

i don't want to lose the music and games stored if i can help it. just beable to change the settings and get past this password issue!

also if i deleted his profile completely and set up a new profile would that get rid of his settings? would it keep the games or delete them too? they are demos and not game saves?

thanks

  1. To start everything fresh, go to system settings: format utility. This will erase everything though but let you make users etc new.

To keep all his stuff, you have to go the very left side on the PS3 menu and click 'create new user'. Type your name, sign in and press triangle on your name icon. Then select Automatic login: ON - your name will be the default one on PS3 now.

Then scroll to the very right, and click sign up for PSN. Make a new gamertag/PSN ID and your all set. All demos the previous owner downloaded will still be on your PS3, under your new account as long as HIS OLD ACCOUNT IS NEVER DELETED.

He has changed his password so dont try and login to his name, the parental control setting is set at 9 which means everything of the highest rating is playable. If it is 9, just leave it as i dont think you can reset the pass.

  2. You can connect an external hard drive or USB drive to save all the music and game save data. Then do a system restore to get rid of all other  info. When you restart the PS3 after restoring it, it will automatically ask you to create a new profile and settings. Then copy back all the music and game data to the PS3. It will be as good as new after that.
