  1. What has happened is that the dealer financed the vehicle and installed a Passtime device (or similar). When you make your payment, you are issued a code, and this allows you to start the car for a certain amount of time.  You need a new code every month, and you get it when you make the payment.

The reason for this is that you have motivation to make your payments. If you quit paying, your car will no longer work!

You signed an agreement allowing them to do so. You had a choice. You could have financed the car elsewhere (if you could qualify). You could have purchased elsewhere, if someone could get your financing approved.  You agreed to the terms and conditions of the financing!

If you have good credit, you can refinance the loan elsewhere, pay off the original loan, and have the device removed. Otherwise you need to remain current on your payments, or risk having your car become unusable!
