Bought component cable..having problem?

today i got component cable for my ps3 and when i select component and tick 480p or 720p..my screen displays black with white lines...someone plz help me i have lg 29' tv which has component..even if my tv is edtv then how come its not supporting 480p nd why there is a component support on the back of my tv when it can display

Many TVs have to have "progressive" signal processing turned on in the menu before they process the component input signal correctly. Try that.
