There is a 50 percent chance the battery is no good. take a voltmeter and check the voltage on the battery. It should be what it states on the battery. Check the inner contacts in your camera to be sure there is nothing on them. Try powering the camera with the USB if you can. This will eliminate the camera as the culprit .

When you inserted the battery in the charger did the light on the charger start flashing? It flashes until it is charged and then remains constantly on when the battery is charged.

If it's new, take it back. this would be a very rare event.
