For an average golfer can you tell that much difference between an 11 degree bounce and a 14 degree bounce?

  1. Average golfer will have a tough time hitting a 14 degree bounce from a tight lie or hardpan.  So yes you probably would notice a difference.


  2. The "bounce" really comes into play particularly when hitting from greenside bunkers.  The "bounce" is the curved bottom of your wedge located at bottom back of your wedge.

    When you open your clubface, it will be the 1st part of your club that makes contact with the sand.  It's called a "bounce" b/c when it makes contact with the sand (or ground) it will cause the clubhead to bounce up;  which is helpful in the bunkers to help kick your ball up & out of the bunker.

    So, on your downswing (clubface open) into the sand, hitting a couple of inches behind your ball;  the club will BOUNCE up under your ball, pushing/blasting your ball up...but you still must follow through.

    Usually, wedges come in 11° or 14° bounce.  The higher the degree, the higher the angle of "bounce".
