  1. I have honestly never encountered a horse with a similar problem at the canter, a bouncy trot is generally the issue but, regardless, the answer would be the same.  I would generally recommend against riding a horse above your experience, until you have an established seat in the saddle and have learned to follow you horses back you will have trouble riding this mare and I must also question her ability to be a riding horse, a short strided bouncy cancer is a sign of a steep angled shoulder and pastern which can cause problems with the mechanical aspects of her stride and cause problems such a navicular which must be carefully monitored.  To follow a horses back you will have to learn to relax your seat: thighs, hips and spine to move fluidly with the horses motion so that you do not lose contact with the saddle as the horse moves.  This is often one of the LAST things to be learned by a beginning rider and is most commonly taught at the (sitting) trot since it is generally the most bouncy gait.  Work with you instrucor on the lunge line to learn to relax and supple your body.  This will prepare you for the mare's canter but I would urge you to hold off on riding her until your instructor feels you are ready to.

  2. just sit up straight and really there no way not to bounce

my first horse was really a really smooth ride but when i bought another she was bouncy but u will get used to it

  3. well the thing is when u canter you have to get her to take bigger strides u have to row ur arms and seat bigger move ur hips a lot but not hoochy mama [too much]

  4. Canter slowly.  If you're western, to sit a rough canter, move your hips up and down with the motion.  Start out exaggerating your motion, and trying to anticipate the horse's motion, and you'll quickly catch on to how the movement goes and how much to move your hips, then it will become automatically.

English will be easier.  Stand in the stirrups just a LITTLE bit, and let your knees, hips, and ankles be shock absorbers.  As you learn to relax and follow the motion, it'll get easier, until you can actually sit the canter.

If she's sweet and gentle, she's worth your time.  Once you can sit a bouncy canter, you'll have no trouble at all sitting the smooth rocking chair canters!

  5. Just try to sit deep in your seat and keep your heels planted, this is what you do when your in the sitting trot position. Try practicing that to get the hang of her. If you're going to canter on her, sit up off of your seat, this will put less pressure on her back and it'll make it alot easier for you.

  6. youll get used to it. practice makes perfect!
