Bounty scandal: Cleveland Browns LB Scott Fujita’s lashing of NFL continues unabated – NFL News
Cleveland Browns’ linebacker, Scott Fujita, cannot just miss an opportunity of flaying the National Football League (NFL) over its handling of the New Orleans Saints covert three-year bounty programme that covers a year of the LB’s stint
with the team.
In his latest remarks, the player has labelled the tackling of the scandal by NFL office as public smear campaign. He is particularly critical of the commissioner, Roger Goodell.
He said:
"I'm not saying the NFL is intentionally lying. I've been willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that they may have just been working with the information they've been given, even though much of that information was inaccurate and
lacked credibility.”
The LB added:
"It's their cavalier interpretation of everything that's been way off. They clearly proceeded with a public smear campaign with very little regard for the truth.”
Scott has received a three-game ban by the NFL over his alleged monetary contribution in the illegal ‘reward-for-hit’ fund, which he has repeatedly denied.
Since then he is not a happy man and has taken on the commissioner on many occasions. He simply does not accept the league’s probe as to be legitimate one.
The NFL had unearthed the illegal reward programme, which ran through unnoticed at Saints for three consecutive seasons. A number of team officials and players have been punished for their alleged involvement in it.
Roger has come under fire from many former players and officials, who argue that the roughness has always been a part of the American football.
They do not see any reason to provide security covers to the quarterbacks, as they believe it could take away the attraction of the game.
The commissioner has refused to buy into these claims and said the safety and security of the players is foremost priority of his office.
Interestingly, the NFL’s situation has become a candle burning on its both ends: on one end, it is the criticism that the office is wrong to take on the matters such as the bounty programme, which apparently is aimed at the players safety
and protection, and on the other, the office faces a number of lawsuits filed in different courts by former players, who have accused the league of doing nothing for their safety and security.
