The boyant force deals with the relationship between your weight "mg" and the mass of the liquid "pVg" you displace.  All together we get the relationship, Fnet = mg- pVg, which is our net bouyant force.  If our weight exceeds our bouyancy than we tend to sink.  If our weight is less than our bouyancy then we tend to rise.  Just remember that it deals with the weight of the water displaced.


  2. the reaction of a fluid onto an object that has applied a force on it.  think of a book sitting on a table.  it's gravitational force pushes on the table, and the table has a similiar reaction pushing back up with a normal force.  when you go into water, your weight pushes the water apart, and the water pushes back onto you.  this happens in air too.
