  1. Well as far as hunting, A bow with less then a 45 pound draw is almost to week for deer.Take her to the store and let her try different bows, I bought a 55 pound draw for my sister, I thought she have no problem and can't pull the string more then 5 inches or so. You have to get them built up to to a suitable weight, it make take some time but do to there smaller stature try to find a youth bow, just  about everyone makes one. Most now have a wide range of adjustment so you can adjust to fit your needs. Also the type of bow will be a big deal, I recommend sticking to compounds or if your state allows it consider getting her a crossbow. Happy Hunting/ sighting in your bows

  2. Two bows I can recommend from experience with teaching and having family learn to archery hunt including my wife. A cross bow is an excellent way to get someone new into hunting. The learning curve is shorter and Parker Bows makes one called the BuckBuster 150 that has a lifetime warrenty and has a butt plate that can be taken out to shorten the stock.  If a bow is what you want they make a Side Kick that is a youth/womens bow and has a very flexible draw length adjustment from 18" to 28" and comes in 3 draw weights. If she started with the 30 to 40 lb and could pull back more , for $50 parker will upgrade the cams and limbs to the 50lb and this bow maintains its value and an easy reseller.  Hope this helps.

  3. Almost every major bow maker makes a short draw , low weight bow for the youth market and the ladies.Get on the web and just key in the bow maker of your choice to get the specs on each of the bows. Get her a 30-40 lb draw weight and two bladed broadheads such as the magnus stinger, which I consider as good as any on the market. The 30 lb draw weight is legal in Louisiana to hunt deer with, and with proper shot placement, will actually pass through the deers chest cavity. Accuracy kills, nothing else matters.

  4. perhaps get her measured at an archery shop to determine her correct draw length. maybe try some different bows to see what she;s comfortable with.

a 30# bow can kill a deer just as well as a 60# bow, the key is shot placement.  your state may have a minimum poundage requirement, i think its usually about 40-45 in some states. although i think many are removing the requirement all together, because of modern bow materials and arrow/broadhead technology, performance is much better than it used to be.  best to double check before making your decision.

    good luck

  5. I do not know what brand to buy, but I shot a 40# draw while I was nursing a shoulder injury.  I killed three deer with that bow, before I went back to a heavier draw weight.  Those deer died just as quickly as if shot with a 60# bow.  Her shot placement is more critical than how much weight she can pull back.
