Bower Eagle upsets Night Fever in The Molson Coors 480m Trophy at Nottingham on Jan 30
Bower Eagle, trained by P J Rosney, surprised the favourite, Night Fever to clinch victory in The Molson Coors 480m Trophy, held at Nottingham on Monday, January 30, 2012.
With the betting odds of 6 to 4, Night Fever broke from the first trap. The black dog was expected to dominate the proceedings, but another black hound, Bower Eagle, outperformed him.
Carrying the winning chances of 2 to 1, Westmead Hawk’s son out of Bower Naomi commenced the event from the sixth trap.
He showed immense speed, which left the rest of the hounds helpless in front of him. The dog covered the preset area of 480 metres in 29.11 seconds, scooping a cash prize of £200.
Night Fever was the nearest pursuer, falling 2 ½ lengths adrift of the champion. After leaving the trap, P. J. Dolby’s trainee clocked the distance in 29.31 seconds.
Despite the fact that the favourite hound showed an early pace, he could not challenge the winner.
Monagea Fantasy managed to finish among the top-3, making it to the post in 29.55 seconds. The black b***h let the runner-up go unchallenged, and remained behind by three lengths.
The daughter of Premier Fantasy out of Solid Potential was sent off with the starting price of 6 to 1.
By crossing the wire in 30.13 seconds, Savana Reg locked fourth place on the table. With the winning possibility of 3 to 1, the blue dog kicked off the race from the fifth trap.
Ballymac Maeve’s son out of Quare Moment, trained by D J Atkins, was badly baulked and therefore, it was quite impossible for him to defy the above three.
The last place went to Bower Model –holding the chances of 4 to 1. Like the fourth placed hound, the black b***h was baulked, and knocked down to the last place.
She took 30.35 seconds to touch the finishing point, and her connections would have been disappointed with the outcome.
It was certainly a welcome win for Bower Eagle, who has recorded his first victory after July, 2011. The hound has regained his lost momentum, and is likely to do well in the forthcoming heat.
