Bower Hawk dominant in the Perry Barr Autumn Stayers
Trying their luck with the £200 prize money are Proud Dodge, Coolemount Gale, Romeo Warrior, Bower Hawk, Non Pasaran and Head Iton Levy. The six hounds will race over 660 metres flat in the Perry Barr Autumn Stayers at Perry Barr on Friday, 5th October. The levels from which the contestants have emerged are not identical, and neither have they been consistent with the rankings in the last few races that they undertook.
The only candidate with recent racing experience at the open level is the four-year-old black dog, Bower Hawk. He was not successful the last two times that he raced, but can make use of some hands on experience.
The P. Rosney trained did dodge the line-up of the Ladbrokes.com 630 – Division 2 on 26th May, 2012 at Monmore over 630 metres.
Taking flight from the box right next to the sixth, the four-year-old finished impressively despite getting crowded when racing in the first position, it took him 38.30 seconds to make it to the other end of the wire.
Escaping defeat just by a neck’s margin had Hiding Escort setting as the runner-up.
The efforts of the trainer to drill the under charge three times in Grade T2 and then once at Grade T3 went vain just as Westmead Hawk’s son ended fourth and then third in the two open races that followed.
He resigned to the fourth position on St Andrews Stayers on 21st September, 2012 at Perry Barr over 660 metres.
Lacking conviction, he broke weakly from the fourth trap, and that got coupled with his inability to pick up the pace.
The race was won by Ethans Pick in 40.20 seconds, and he led the rest of the lot by 1 ¾ lengths.
His next stop was the lovethedogs.co.uk Super Stayers on 28th September, 2012 at Perry Barr over 710 metres. Once again his defeat was attributed to the slow beginning, and then checking the level of competition from the fifth position made it impossible for him to be the first one to race across the wire. Farloe Elektra won the race in 42.96 seconds and defeated the favourite entry by a length’s mark.
