http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, after the second day’s play on Sunday, June 19, 2011.
No play possible on the opening day, as it rained. However, the visitors lost nine wickets for 170 runs once they came out to bat and were not in a very good position. Durham’s fast bowlers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Steve-Harmison-c2576 did most of the damage, taking five wickets in whole.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Phil-Mustard-c2183, who keeps the stumps and leads Durham, opted to field first after winning the toss. It was a wise decision considering the heavy rain on the first day. There was a lot of moisture beneath the surface of the wicket, which offered quite a lot of assistance for the bowlers.
Yorkshire’s start was terrible, as they lost their opening batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Lyth-c922, in the very first over of the match. He failed to open his account and had to take the long walk back to the pavilion.
The team’s first-drop, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Gale-c1039, was dismissed after collecting just nine runs. The team had lost three wickets for just 28 runs on the board at that stage.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867 team, Root gave his wicket away. He was well set and looked good in the middle, but was unable to carry onto the start he got to his innings and ended up with 27 runs.
Yorkshire came under immense pressure, as they lost two more quick wickets. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Ballance-c1465 was unable to make an impression and got out without scoring. He was followed by Bairstow, who was dismissed after an impressive 38-run knock. At that stage, six wickets had fallen in the Yorkshire innings with just 90 runs on the board.
However, lower-order player, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adil-Usman-Rashid-c42011, fought back hard for his side, scoring 47 runs off 71 deliveries. He struck eight fours in his knock and was the top scorer for his team. He missed-out on a half-century though, but guided his side into a better position.
At http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Close-c51347 of play, Yorkshire were struggling at 170/9, but will be hoping to reach 200 before their last wicket falls. They will have to cope with the accuracy of Onions and Harmison though, who picked up three and two wickets in the day.
