  1. Bowlmor, one block from Union Square is an institution.  A classic, nostalgic kind of lanes that they jazz up with nightime features.

Chelsea Piers, on the hudson and about 23d street, or the lanes in the Port Authority bus Terminal at 40th and 8th ave, near Times Square, are two other possibilities.

  2. Bobs bowling alley on 52nd street !i

  3. Chelsea Piers

  4. The three places to bowl in Manhattan are:

Bowlmore Lanes - University & 13th Street - this place is fun, loud music, a full bar, good food.  Monday nights they have a special "night strike" where they turn the lights off and use black lights to make the pins/balls glow and have a DJ playing dance music - it's lots of fun!

Port Authority Lanes - in Port Authority 42nd Street & 8th Avenue - they renovated this place recently, and it is a lot nicer than it used to be.  They have a separate lounge/bar area.  It is not usually as crowded as Bowlmore and you never have to wait for lanes.

Chelsea Piers Bowling - Really nice lanes, but I think this is the most expensive of the three.  They have "X-Treme" bowling late nights.

  5. Ah, they're all glow bowling now.  All this laser-light stuff, and up near (or over) $6 or $7 a game.

Try Van Nest Lanes, in the Bronx.  Real old-time place, but well-kept, inexpensive, and a friendly staff!

There's also Melody Lanes, by the 36th Street D/M/N/R station in Brooklyn.  Good reviews there.  Maple Lanes is another one.

However, if you're willing to pay extra for the neon stuff, and if that's what you want, then the above suggestions are good.  It's just that I'm not sure what you're looking for.  If you're in town looking for regular bowling, the kind of places a league bowler would look for to practice at, I gave you the places that have it.  A few of them, anyway.  There are more if you want them.

  8. My friend, may I recommend the Leisure Time Entertainment Center, which is located inside the Port Authority Bus Terminal (42nd Street and 8th Avenue). It has on of the best bowling alleys in the city.

    Good luck
